Enlistment Steps

Initial Interview

You will receive your initial interview by a recruiter to determine your tentative qualifications for entrance into the VTANG. You will then receive a complete overview of the programs offered by the air national guard.

Armed Services/ Vocational Aptitude Test (ASVAB)

You will be required to take a three hour test commonly called the ASVAB. This test will be used to determine your eligibility to join the VTANG and assist in your job selection process.

Job Select/Briefing

Your ASVAB scores will determine which job’s you qualify for. Once you choose a career field you will receive an orientation of the career field you selected.

Physical

You will be required to have a complete physical examination to determine if you are medically qualified for entrance into the VTANG. You will need to provide medical documentation for any ailments that required hospitalization. The physical is conducted at the military entrance processing station (MEPS) in Albany, NY. A recruiting assistant will escort you to MEPS and return you back to the original pickup location.

Pre-enlistment Briefing

This is when you will be briefed about potential bonuses and benefits .

Enlistment

You will meet an enlistment clerk who will explain your contract in detail and go over some of the benefits that you will receive. You will also be required to complete a security clearance questionnaire.
